24 May 2017 - Goomeri to Monto

Today dawned clear and with much sunshine .  By 8.30am however a heavy fog had settled in and it stayed with us for the first 60 km of the drive up the Burnett Highway from Goomeri to our target for today, Monto, a mere 270km away.

Today we passed through consistently green countryside, with consistently fat cattle adorning the lush hills and valleys.  Most notable to us was the absence of roadkill.  The last time we passed this way the country was in drought and there was roadkill everywhere, as the native wildlife sought the relatively green foliage on the roadsides.

The towns we passed through included Tansey, Gayndah, Mundubbera and Eidsvold.  We were in the famous citrus growing area and yes, we did buy a Honey Murcott mandarine for 40 cents, which we shared.  Fresh off the tree, it was beautiful.

We arrived at Monto at around 3pm and after connecting up and doing some minor TV arial repairs, we joined some of the park's occupants around the fire pit, a not uncommon social experience for travellers.
