Day 160 - More around Walpole

Weather was good today so we decided to look at the remaining attractions around Walpole.  First was the John Rate Lookout with a (very) distant view of Nornalup Inlet.

We did a 700m walk up to the top of Mount Clare expecting to see views of the coast, but saw nothing except the rock which formed the mountain's top.  Enjoyed the 700m walk down though.

Next we went further west to Mandalay Beach, the site of the "Mandalay" shipwreck which occurred in 1911.  It is a beautiful beach with a large rock formation called Marchant Island, offshore, with waves breaking along its shore.

We took in Coalmine Beach, a beach which is on the northwestern shore of Nornalup Inlet, a quiet and unassuming little place.

We headed inland then to take in the "Giant Red Tindle Tree".  Giant it was but it was in good company with many other very large Red Tindles and karris.  These are "oo-ah" trees.  You take in one and then you turn around and there is another one.  They are so difficult to photograph and we were at serious risk of cricking our necks while looking upwards or even falling backwards as we stretched to get their tops in the frame.

Conspicuous Cliff and Conspicuous Beach came next and then Peaceful Bay and Peaceful Beach.  By this time we were back on the coast and saw some spectacular beaches and headlands.  An offshore breeze had come up and the sea had become a little more boisterous.  Peaceful Bay was true to name and remained peaceful and placid in spite of the wind.

We have had a delightful time in Walpole.  It was an excellent base from which to see most of the south coast attractions.

Love these trees!
