Day 168 - Bremer Bay to Lake King

Today we wakened to a strong breeze but the sun was shining.  Our target for today was Lake King, 70 km north of Ravensthorpe on the way to Hyden and Wave Rock.

We thought we would never get there.  We met an extremely strong wind about 15km from Bremer Bay.  Trouble is, it was going in the opposite direction to us and it kept us company all the way.

210914 Big or small, they all demonstrated the winds presence
The wind was strong enough to blow down trees and electricity lines. We were filling the car with fuel at Ravensthorpe and the pump stopped.
The garage had lost its electricity supply.  Ten minutes after settling into our camp at Lake King, we too lost electricity.  It was precious little consolation to be told that Perth and parts to the south-west, were also being battered by strong winds, but with rain as well.  No rain for us, only dust and gross discomfort.

Wind aside for most of today’s drive we were passing through cereal crops.  This is a very big business over here.  We passed several local receiving stations on the way.

We passed a pink lake north of Ravensthorpe, which we think is Lake Chidnup but could not get a photograph of it.  We did get one of a dry white lake in the distance, which we think is Lake Pallarup. There was no public access to either.

Today was a 288km drive marred by an irritating wind.  It usurped our conversation and our energy.  Glad to say at 4.30pm it changed direction and moderated.  With this came a sudden drop in the temperature.  Tomorrow is another day.

A bit of philosophy can only help on a bitchy, moany day.

“It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no person can sincerely try to help another without helping themselves”. Ralph Waldo Emerson
