Day 165 Albany to Bremer Bay

A beautiful day today and our spectacular time at Albany had come to an end.  We were off to Esperence, or so we thought.  It is our practice to not look too far forward until we get in the car each day, so much to our surprise we found Esperence is 417km away from Albany.  Much too much for we gentle folk in one day. As a consequence we travelled a mere 238km to Bremer Bay.

Cheyne Beach seemed a perfect place to detour to have morning tea.  Morning tea was extended because we met up with two separate couples who were in need of conversation.  My don't we meet some interesting people on the way.  We did not mind because both couples were almost "locals" and we got good advice on what was around.

We lunched at a roadhouse at a small village called Wellstead and then cruised the last 80km into our overnight stop at Bremer Bay.  This is an idyllic site for a caravan park which is on the Wellstead Estuary.  This estuary is blocked from the sea by a huge sandbar which must be every bit of 400m wide.  The sand is compacted so we were able to drive out on to it.  A drive around Bremer took every bit of five minutes but we climbed a lookout tower and got some good views over the bay and the estuary.

The place is quiet today but, with school holidays the week after next, you might consider our timing to be impeccable.
