Today was an
administrative day, household duties and the cleaning of a very muddy car.
In the afternoon
we took a look around Strahan. Strahan
township is built on a thin strip of land facing Macquarie Harbour. The commercial area, a few shops and an hotel
sit on The Esplanade, opposite the wharf area.
The latter provides access to the cruise boats, to the tourist
information centre, to a working sawmill, a slipway and facilities for fishing
boats.

The hills behind
The Esplanade are quite steep, thus providing an excellent view of the town, in
our case from Watertank Hill Lookout.

The only other
feature of interest beyond the harbour itself, was Hogarth Falls. These were accessed by a 20 minute walk
through rainforest along a babbling brook. The brook was showing the benefits
of the last few days of rain as were the falls themselves. The sun was shining as we did the walk and
there were beautiful examples of the sun casting shadows as it made its way
down through the trees and then reflecting brown, yellow and orange colours
from the tea coloured water.

Administration
day means we reward ourselves with dinner out in the evening, this time at
Hamer’s Grill – on The Esplanade of course.
Yummm!.
