Day 11 - West of Wynyard

We awoke to an overcast morning with occasional misty rain, so light as to barely wet the ground.

We headed west of Wynyard a meagre 35km and saw more interesting coastline today than we have seen previously.

Our first port of call was to Fossil Bluff, which provided evidence of the geological history of the area.  We walked a steep hill which gave us an excellent view of Wynyard and Inglis River.  Our caravan park is at the estuary of the Inglis River.

Next was Table Cape which provided a view back to Low Head at the estuary of the Tamar River about 100km east from Wynyard.  Sadly we arrived at the same time as a shower of rain and though we waited for an improvement, the sky to the east never really cleared and the mistiness spoiled our photographs.

The highlight of the day was Boat Harbour Beach, a beautiful protected beach with white sand and rocks down to the water. A seafood chowder for lunch at a cafe right on the beach warmed our tummies as we gazed over the bay and wondered what the place would be like in the summer.  Life savers were present but unsurprisingly, there was no one swimming.

Second best to Boat Harbour Beach was Sisters Beach a few kilometres away.  It was a longer beach, again with white sand, but there were fewer people there.  Behind it was the Rocky Cape National Park which we drove into.  The road ran parallel to the beach but was very rough so we did not follow it too far.

We saw some unusual things during the day, a creepy creeper, some small deer and a different type of wind turbine.

We arrived home to a warmer afternoon but the rain remained ever threatening.
