It was a beautiful morning, sunny and
around 10degrees, rising to 17degrees during the day.
Our plan today was to do a cruise which
circumnavigates Maria Island and visits Darlington, the old penal settlement at
the northern end of the island. Sadly,
there were too few people to run the cruise so we turned today into a home
duties day.
After lunch, on the advice of our park
host, we visited the Bluff near Orford.
The Bluff provided an excellent view of Maria Island and both Spring and
Stapleton Beaches. These beaches are
indentations in the cliffs along the Mercury Passage, which is the strait
separating Maria Island from the mainland.
The colourful cliffs, the clear water and the white sand make for
picturesque views. However the clouds
had come out to play at the expense of the sun.
A breeze came up too which then put us back into familiar territory.

Our fish dinner last night was excellent.
Tomorrow we head north towards Freycinet
Peninsula.
