Day 100 - Port Hedland to Point Samson

205km today from Port Hedland Golf Club to Point Samsonon a beautiful sunny day, albeit with a strong wind.  Fortunately the wind was behind us all the way.

"Why Golf Club?" you may well ask.  There was no room in the stables at Port Hedland's caravan parks last night so we went to an overflow site, the town's golf club.  It was dusty, no power or water so we left, lickety-split in the morning. They did have nice greens though, but they would not let us park on them.

We have ended up at Point Samson, on the coast about 15km from Roebourne.  It's a fairly new park and has all the necessary facilities, including internet, so we have decided to spend a week at the beach, to recharge our batteries while we take in the nearby scenes.  We are not far from Dampier, the port for Rio Tinto's iron ore, so that should take in a day or so.  Karratha is not far away so we might spend a day there too.

The drive down was mediocre.  We passed over flat, straw coloured countryside with low hills appearing and disappearing unannounced. The inevitable red appeared as gashes in the spinifex covered hills but there was very little green.  We crossed quite a few rivers en route but only one, the Sherlock, had any water in it.

Point Samson is obviously a holiday destination, without a beach.  With WA schools in recess, we are blessed with a high percentage of children as the park's guests.  The last response we heard was "Emily, stop that screaming".  We are opposite the park's pool and play area and the kids are just having fun.
