Day 89 - Broome to Sandfire

The weather was perfect again today as we left Broome in our wake and headed for Sandfire.  Sandfire is a roadhouse around 300km from Broome on the Great Northern Highway and is a little over halfway to Port Hedland, our next major destination.  The road was excellent but the countryside was flat, occasionally with wide grassy plains as far as the eye could see, but mostly with low growing, shrubby trees. We crossed one high spot, about 20m high, although as we approached Sandfire, we crossed one about 40m high. One bright spot was the emergence of some wildflowers.  The prodigious wattle topped the list but there were others. You may wish to have a guess as to how Sandfire got its name.  Our thought is that it is after the sandy, red soil which covers the ground, including the park where we are overnighting.  It does have a bit of a menagerie here which the photos will reveal.  Sadly the peacocks that were here when we arrived have now disappeared.
