Day 26 - Ti Tree Roadhouse to Alice Springs

The day dawned chilly at 10 deg C on its way to a forecast 22 deg.  This is quite a change from what we have been experiencing and no doubt is the northern extension of the cool change moving across southern Australia.  Countryside today was, as previously, low growing trees on plains.  Then, as we got nearer to Alice Springs, the MacDonnell Ranges came on the scene and the scenery improved greatly.  Our caravan park this evening is at the foot of the range. The traffic increased as we approached Alice Springs.  The Ulysses motorcycle club has a big gathering in Alice Springs this weekend and this explains the number of motorbikes we have seen on the road over the last few days

Highlights today:

  • cooler weather
  • big people display at Aileron cattle station and roadhouse
  • the MacDonnell Ranges - but more of them later
  • Seeing some double lines on the Stuart Highway as we went through Native Gap
  • Alice Springs - first glimpse, very nice

020514 Crossing the Tropic of Capricorn - again

Adelaide and Darwin

020514 Approaching the MacDonnell Ranges
and Alice Springs

020514 We have arrived. The sign is accurate
but the rocks are fake.
