Today we said goodbye to Uluru and Kata Tjuta and headed to Kings Canyon, 309km away. The countryside changed almost as we left the Lasseter Highway and headed north along the Luritja Road to Kings Canyon. The sand hills were intermixed with rocky outcrops. The vegetation changed too and most common were evenly sized shrubs covering the hills, almost like soldiers standing in a row. Eventually we reached the George Gill Range, home of Kings Canyon. Its rocks are quite different from Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Erosion of two sandstone layers at the top has resulted in the range have sloped sides in places. Our voyage of discovery continues tomorrow as we venture into the canyon. The resort site where we are “camped” is on the top of the escarpment. Can’t get Wi-Fi here without paying.
