Day 38 and a quarter and Day 39

Day 38 and a quarter.  In the evening we watched the sunset at Kings Canyon.  Actually it is not in the canyon.  What is viewed is a section of George Gill Range exposed fully to the setting sun.  The range is about 75km long and is sometimes a bit featureless when viewed from a distance, particularly when the majority of the range is in shadow, as it was at this time.  The sunset was not as spectacular as Uluru but nonetheless it held our attention.  As we watched, a moon rise occurred but it was difficult to "get" the moon right over the sunset action spot for a photograph.  Even though we were mightily distracted by the sunset we still had to deal with those pesky bush flies.  We wonder what they do when we are not there.

Day 39 found us retracing our footsteps from Kings Canyon to Alice Springs. We travelled 472km today.  Road was as good coming as going and the weather - a maximum 26 degrees - perfect. We are continually surprised at what good condition the countryside is in. What we have not seen is much wildlife, other than a few dingos which wandered languidly through the caravan park last night.  A lot of desert creatures are nocturnal which may be an explanation. Back to civilisation now, which is good from a communication point of view.
