237.5km today, inexorably north on a day with wispy white clouds flitting across an azure blue sky. Temperature reached about 34 degrees. We stoically suffered sameness syndrome today. The land was very similar all day with the only relief from the rolling tree filled plains being an occasional low pebble strewn range and low spots where the water sits in the wet, where the grass is greener and the trees are a little bit higher. It is the land's immensity that is beautiful. Occasional high spots on the road provided 300degree views of plains as far as the eye could see.
We continued our history education with a visit to a site near Dunmarra where the Overland Telegraph Line was joined by the south and the north construction teams. The line took two years to build and was finished in 1872. The design, construction and the connection were overseen by Sir Charles Todd, head of the South Australian PMG. So this is where all things "Todd" in the NT originate.
We passed through Elliot today. This was a staging post for the army for troop movements north and south during the second world war. It is in the middle of nowhere, but it did have internet service!
Sadly no pictures today.
